Joe Rocco, Partner-In-Charge of the Audit & Assurance Department
Carl Austin has been at Bowers over 30 years and has led the growth of the Audit and Assurance Department to one of the largest in the CNY market. After years of leadership and dedication to the firm, Carl is “passing the torch” to Joe Rocco, who will become Partner-In-Charge of the Audit & Assurance Department at Bowers & Advisors. Carl will remain a strong presence on the team, continuing as Co-Managing Partner and an active Audit Partner.
In his new role, Joe will officially begin spearheading the following as of August 1, 2023:
- Direct the leaders of the functional areas of the Audit & Assurance Department including:
- Quality Control
- Training & CPE
- Reviews & Evaluations
- Staffing & Recruiting
- Marketing & Communications
- Offering guidance, assistance, and approval for major decisions and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with Audit Partners and Managers to gather input and ideas
- Review and manage the administrative support processes to ensure adequate staffing levels and proper resource allocation
A Little About Joe Rocco
Joe is a native Central New Yorker – born in Syracuse and raised in Oneida, New York.
After completing school at Hartwick College, Joe moved to Boston where he worked his way up the ranks at PwC from Audit Associate to Director. Through starting his career at PwC and studying for the CPA exam, Joe met his wife, Melissa. Not only did they both pass the exam, but they also married and welcomed three kids! In 2019, they decided with two little boys and two fulltime jobs, it was time to head back to CNY to be closer to family and friends.
When assessing competing firms in the area, Bowers stood out to Joe. He was particularly impressed with the time Bowers spent to provide a clear growth plan for Joe which encapsulated his goals, interests, and provided flexibility for his young family.
In taking on this new role, Joe hopes to provide the same guidance and support to existing and incoming associates. Joe’s top priorities will include reinforcing a strong culture, building a strategic plan for both employee and client attraction and retention, and ensuring the Audit & Assurance Department always has an evolving vision for the future.
Joe is most excited to see the team grow, expand their leadership skills, dive into business development, and establish strong roots at the firm. He sees everyone on the team as being critical to the success of the firm and hopes to engage everyone in building the vision.
