Bowers announced that Joe Mocciaro has been appointed as the firm’s new Managing Partner, marking the first change in firm leadership in 28 years. Originally from Syracuse, New York, Joe graduated from Ithaca College in 1990 with a Bachelors in Finance. Joe began his career with Bowers in 1995 and was honored as a “40 Under 40” award recipient in 2007. With over 30 years of industry experience, he has been a pivotal leader at Bowers for many years, consistently driving growth and innovation.
Joe is the lead for the firm’s successful Short Line Rail niche, where he oversees a broad range of specialized services, including auditing, outsourced accounting and CFO services, buy and sell side diligence, Quality of Earnings analysis, internal controls, fraud examination, and general financial consulting. He is the audit partner for many of the firm’s largest rail and manufacturing clients, and he manages the rail accounting services department, which provides monthly accounting services and railroad retirement reporting to numerous short lines and ports across the country. As a recognized thought leader in the industry, he is frequently invited to speak at national and regional rail association conferences.
Joe also brings over three decades of manufacturing accounting experience to the firm’s Manufacturing Practice niche. He holds the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation and previously gained extensive cost accounting experience while working for a large international manufacturing organization before joining Bowers. He serves as a Committee Member on the Supplier Committee and Legislative Action Committee of the American Short Line and Regional Rail Association; an Executive Committee Member for Railroads of New York; a former Finance Committee Member for the Manufacturers’ Association of Central New York; a Board Member for the Le Moyne College and SUNY Oswego Accounting Advisory Boards; and a former Treasurer and Board Member for numerous not-for-profit organizations.
“It is a tremendous honor to be named Managing Partner of Bowers during such an important moment in the firm’s history,” Joe said. “I look forward to building upon our long-standing legacy while continuing to strengthen our specialty practices, elevate our client experience, and support the exceptional professionals who make this firm what it is.”
“After 28 years serving together as co-managing partners, we are proud to transition leadership to Joe,” said Carl Austin and Michael DAvirro. “His expertise, integrity, and commitment to both our clients and our team make him exceptionally well suited to guide the firm into its next chapter. We are confident that Bowers will continue to thrive under his leadership.”
